Ann Harrell classroom
Trent J. Rash: “Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh…...”
Ann Harrell: “That was pretty good. The scale is a little off coming down. “
Rachel AuBuchon plays piano in background.
Harrell: “Try it again.”
Rash: “Ahhhhhh……ahhhhhhhhh….”
Harrell: “Perfectly in tune.”
Rash: “Ahhhhhh….ahhhhhhhhhh….”
Harrell: “So, you may have to kind of find it and do it a couple of times until you kind of find the placement. “
Break to interview
Harrell: “You know, I love the day-to-day, nitty-gritty hard work which I think is probably the reason why that when somebody like Emily or Neal has this more public success that that’s even sweeter because, you know, it didn’t happen by accident. So, that’s a nice payoff.”
Back to classroom
Harrell: “You know, this is very difficult music to sing.”
Rash: “Yes.”
Harrell: “But it suits you perfectly. And so I want you to figure out a way to go ahead and start having more fun with it. I know it’s hard, but let’s not be too serious.
Rash: “Right, this is a fun opera.”
Harrell: “Yea, exactly. “
Rash: “This is a comic opera.”
Harrell: “And so when you get to the ‘Dah-dahhh-dahhhh-daahhhhh,’ you gotta have more fun with that and that’ll help you sing it better.”
AuBuchon plays piano while Rash sings.
Harrell: “Three, four…that really rocks Trent. It really is good.”
Rash: “Thank you.”
